I grew up pre-Title IX, the initiative that finally allowed girls to compete in sports in 1972. I have always done something to keep me outdoors and healthy. I started running/"jogging" about 13 years ago and grew up swimming in the Midwest Lakes, where I was a Water-Safety Instructor and Lifeguard for a number of summers during my stint as a camp counselor. I come from a climbing and kayaking background, but I was introduced to road cycling when I met my husband, John, who was a Cat 2 racer. I entered my first triathlon just 10 years ago, when I was 43.
I have had chronic asthma for the past 18 years. Exercising and staying healthy contribute to my success with controlling my asthma and being able to swim, bike, and run.
I love the training, being outside, being with friends, and finding new trails or races to do. I have raced every distance of triathlon, from sprint to Ironman.
I also coach for USA Fit - Bellingham Triathlon program, training people of all ages and fitness levels to complete a sprint or Olympic distance triathlon.
Presently, I am training for the Grand Columbian 70.3 race (1/2 Ironman). My goal is to finish around 6 hours.
